August 2024- Chef Rose visited Princeton YWCA's preschool summer camp. She shared the story "The Emperor of Chefs" and taught the campers how to make the sweet and simple dessert, Peach Melba, inspired by the famous French chef Auguste Escoffier.
August 2025- Chef Rose visited the Robbinsville MOMS Club where she read "Callie the Cat and Her Rainbow Lunch." The children tasted all the foods from the story and then made their own rainbow parfait! Chef Rose drew on her expertise as a speech-language pathologist to help parents and children discover fun ways to support language development while preparing a snack together.
A "Page to Plate" presentation (recommended for ages 2-7 years) is an engaging and interactive experience designed to combine literacy, language concepts, and culinary creativity for children. The presentation begins with the reading of a story. Children are encouraged to explore vocabulary, ask questions, sequence events, identify descriptive words, and making predictions.
After the story, the presentation transitions to the "plate" portion, where children create a recipe inspired by the book. This hands-on cooking activity not only reinforces the language concepts discussed but also allows children to apply their learning in a practical, enjoyable way. They follow step-by-step instructions, measure ingredients, and use their five senses to explore textures, smells, and flavors. Throughout the cooking process, children engage in conversations that enhance their language skills, including following directions, using descriptive language, and problem-solving.
The "Page to Plate" presentation is a holistic approach that nurtures a love for reading, enhances language skills, and fosters creativity in the kitchen, making it an enriching experience for young learners.
